Workshop on “Financial Planning & Analysis”-12/04/2010

To build and strengthen capacities in accounting and financial analysis, financial managers and their deputies from the 13 Syrian water establishments participated in a 3-day workshop on “Financial Planning & Analysis”, held in Damascus on 23-25^th March 2010. The workshop, which was supported by GTZ, tackled financial strategies, project financial analysis, issuance of financial statements and budgetary issues.

Discussions took place on the regulatory role of the Ministry of Housing and Construction, and the impact of private sector participation on the water sector.

The workshop marks the beginning of a comprehensive capacity building initiative in accounting and financial analysis with the longer-term objective of achieving better cost recovery in the water sector. The first round of training is scheduled to start in May 2010.
